Discograms

Patients with disc disease often have multiple discs that are abnormal, or may have a combination of disc and facet disease. Sometimes, it is not possible on clinical examination or on routine MRI to localize the level responsible for the pain.

Discography is a procedure where a needle is inserted into the centre of the disc and under pressure saline is injected. If the patient's pain is reproduced by the injection, that is considered the level responsible for the patient's pain syndrome
